My Story

About Me
Hello, I’m Monica Fontes, a nationally certified Brazilian Portuguese interpreter and translator with over 11 years of experience in the medical, legal, and general fields. Born and raised in Brazil, I earned my degree in Marketing and Promotion before moving to the United States, where I’ve been living and working for the past 23 years.

Throughout my career, I’ve dedicated myself to fostering clear communication across linguistic and cultural barriers, particularly in high-stakes environments like healthcare and legal settings. As a certified medical interpreter by both the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) and the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (Hub CMI), I bring a deep understanding of complex terminology and industry-specific nuances to every project I undertake.
Professional Journey
My professional path has been shaped by a strong commitment to bridging communication gaps and providing clients with the highest level of service. Over the years, I’ve worked as a translator and interpreter for both private clients and leading agencies, including Cyracom LLC, American Languages, and STC, among others. I’ve handled assignments across multiple platforms, whether on-site, over the phone, or via video call, allowing me to adapt to the specific needs of each client and scenario.

In the legal and medical fields, accuracy and cultural sensitivity are critical, and my work reflects an unwavering dedication to these principles. My clients range from individuals to multinational corporations, and I’ve handled projects in Brazilian Portuguese and English that cover everything from sworn legal documents to detailed medical consultations.
Certifications and Training
To ensure that my clients receive the best possible service, I have invested in continued education and professional development. In addition to my certifications as a medical interpreter, I have completed a range of specialized training programs, including:
-
MITIO - Medical Interpreter Training (60 hours)
-
Medical Terminology for Medical Interpreters (12.5 hours)
-
Blue Horizon Cross Communication School for interpreters
These credentials, combined with my real-world experience, equip me with the knowledge and confidence to handle even the most challenging assignments.
